Yesterday we celebrated Nathanael's two full years. It was just a simple day with the four of us, but even so I think it was surprising how exciting it was to celebrate with him and see him start to understand what it means that he was "One" and now he's "Two".
The first special thing to happen was Papa and Gigi's visit on Saturday. It was a great time that Nate really enjoyed, and he got a dress rehearsal for blowing out birthday candles (without getting burned by the "hot"). Then on Saturday evening we when to a genuine harvest party at a farm in Michigan, and Nate got to sit on a real John Deere farm tractor and go on his first hay-ride! It turns out Nathanael is an enthusiastic fan of hay-rides.
Yesterday, when the big day came, Mommy reminded Nate that it was a very special day and Nate looked at her, and asked excitedly if his grandparents were coming. Of course they weren't, but he still had fun decorating his cake and the house, playing with his special birthday balloon, furniture tents, riding his horsey (guess who), eating his favorite meal, opening and playing with gifts.
It was a full day, but a good one, and a reminder to really live in each day, because it's amazing that our boy is two already.
